rainbow yarmulke

this rainbow yarmulke was created by ron from a design student in shenkar college. the unique yarmulke was knitted as an answer to a design brief in a visual communication studio that i teach in the industrial design department for the last five years.
the brief asked the students to integrate a found graphic symbol (icon, logo, pictogram etc.) with a found object or environment in order to give both a new meaning (political, ironic, personal, humorist). in this case, the synthesis of the rainbow flag as a graphic symbol, and the jewish yarmulke as a found object, drew attention to the tension between sexual identity and conservative judaism.
